As practitioners in the field working with a variety of schools in developing academic and behavior systems, we have noticed the need for creating effective and practical Tier 2 interventions that work. We have found that Tier 2 interventions are often missing some critical markers, characteristics, and SMART goals in schools. To address this need, we developed an interactive handbook as a guide to help schools create or audit their current Tier 2 behavior system and all Tier 2 interventions. This interactive handbook can be used to help your PBIS, MTSS, or Leadership team take an intentional look at the effectiveness of your targeted behavior interventions. The excerpt below highlights the difference between a school with all the Tier 2 markers, characteristics, and SMART goals in place, in comparison to a school missing key components.

So what would you see if you visited a Silver Level PBIS Champion Model School and observed staff implementing one of their Tier 2 interventions? Based on your current knowledge, is School Environment A or School Environment B a Silver Level PBIS Champion Model School? Which school environment would you prefer to be a part of?

What is your school’s current state in relation to School Environment A and School Environment B?
